Colorado
Summary: Our first long trip towing our trailer. Missouri -> Kansas -> Colorado -> Kansas -> Missouri.
Our first travel stop: a Goat Ranch in
Abilene, Kansas where we bought fresh eggs.
Our second travel stop: a Buffalo Ranch in Limon,
Colorado. We had a buffalo burger dinner followed by a tour out to a buffalo herd. Sandy got to feed the buffalo by hand.
The next four days: Ridgway State Park. We explored Ouray, Telluride,
and Silverton. We did some 4x4 trails over Red Mountain #1 on a trail called "Corkscrew
Pass"--three times because we got
turned around looking for the turnoff to Silverton. But we didn't mind. It was an
awesome trail that took us above treeline and into some snow.
A one-night travel stop at a disillery in Montrose, Colorado. We toured the Ute Indian Museum.
The next five days at Blue Mesa Recreational Ranch near Gunnison. We explored Gunnison, Crested Butte, Gothic, Lake City, and the Black Canyon of the Gunnison.
The next two nights at
Lake Scott State Park, Kansas. Nice campground, but major storms with hail and high winds rolled
through. A lot of history in this area. We spent a day visiting the "Little Pyramids" and Little Jerusalem, Badlands State Park. On our way home we made a quick stop at Keystone Gallery.
Our last travel stop was at a Brewery in Topeka, Kansas that
had a dog park and live music. Unfortunately, the beer and music were both disappointing.
Heading home: Stopped at one of our favorite places in Columbia,
Missouri for lunch, Flat Branch pub/restaurant, before arriving back home
in St. Louis.
